colour study

i don't even need to make this confession... everyone already knows that i'm a ModCloth addict. i can sit for hours scrolling through all of their goodness, absolutely loving every second thing i see and gasping in appreciation at the beauty. aaaah.

i had this idea after finding three red dresses which i loved equally all in quick succession on the Site of Temptation. what would be better than a ModCloth dress colour study?!

here are the three i put together - don't deny their collective and individual beauty, yo ;)

sigh... so marvellous!

hope you all have a fantastic day - stay tuned for some coolness that i've got up my sleeve for ya ;)

luck of the Irish

when it comes to my background, i'm pretty decidedly Scottish and Danish. and when it comes to physical features? blonde hair, blue eyes... yep, i'm a little Dane alright.

but tonight? tonight, when my entire campus, which is usually proudly purple, douses itself in different shades of green... tonight, i'll go out with the best of them and get my green on.

because tonight, everyone's Irish.

also, i took this quiz and it told me i'm 75% Irish... so that's what's up ;)

*stay tuned... photos to follow :)

dancing in the dark

one of my favourite bands of all time goes by the name of Dear Reader.

they've had many names over the years - once Pilot, then Harris Tweed, eventually settling on their current moniker. originally from Johannesburg (here in sunny South Africa), they're now based in Berlin; once a two-person band, they increased their numbers only to downsize and now consist largely of one incredible woman, Cherilyn MacNeil.

their sound, too, has evolved over the years, from a quirky indie-pop to a deeper, more intricate melodic pop (by my reckoning, anyway ;) ). since Cheri's based in Germany, they don't play many local gigs anymore, but i had the great (GREAT GREAT!) fortune of being able to watch them live in Durban on the 2nd of January this year (and yes, i'm aware that it's now the middle of March... i forbid you to judge me ;) ) as a part of a hastily put together whirlwind tour of SA... and it was phenomenal.

anyway, all of their albums - their first of which is simply called Harris Tweed, their second named Replace Why With Funny and their most recent entitled Idealistic Animals - are definitely worth purchasing/downloading/loving; i was wandering around YouTube the other day and stumbled across this AMAZING video of Cheri singing Dancing In The Dark, originally by Bruce Springsteen. and died. and then came back to life to post it here.

now that i've listened to it again and died again, i need to go do some work... laaaaame.
hope you're all well :)

pretty beautiful.

today is the 21st birthday of the amazing Hayley.
and, quite simply, i love this girl.

she's a beaut, isn't she? this photo is from a year and three months ago - the last time i got to spend time with her. i was feeling creative and utilised Picnik's awesomeness (which you should also do while you still can), and this is the result... a stamp :)

i gave Hayzelnut and Hannycake (our amalgamation nicknames, since Hayley is Hayz / Hazelnut and i'm Hanny / Pancake) a Latin species name just for the heck of it: Amici aeternum. [not even gonna lie - i looked it up on Google Translate. and ye-e-e-es, i'm studying Latin! *cringes* i will get better at it, i promise...] roughly translated - which you could do yourself on Google Translate ;) - that means, friends forever. and i believe it.

Haze is one of the most gorgeous people i've ever come across, both inside and out. i mean, she could model; every time friends of mine see photos of me with her, they ask, "who is that? she's really beautiful!" but aside from that, she has this inner loveliness that just shines through, where, when you're in her presence, you could have a million different things going on... but you can just sense that it's okay. and that it'll work out. and that Haze loves you. to be around that? it's pretty darn incredible, folks.

i was searching for a Bible verse that struck me as HAYLEY and i kept coming back to Zephaniah 3:17, which reads:
The LORD your God is with you,
    he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.

and i can see God doing just that over Hayley's life; i can see Him looking down and rejoicing over her with the most incredible songs, enveloping her in His love, a glorious love in which she in turn envelops others.

this girl is more than special and stunning and i'm so proud to call her friend.
i less-than-three you, lovely girl.
