mirtle magic

hi, everyone! *waves*

hope y'all are all doing well :) i wrote my 3rd exam yesterday morning - so i'm halfway to freedom, WHEEEE! there's still a lot more to do before i can call it quits, but i'm feeling slightly better about these exams - i just need stamina for the next two weeks.

i thought that today i could feature an artist whom i LOVE and have been wanting to share with you guys forever. but please note: I ADORE HER. so i've included about a thousand of her drawings. and you should look at them all, because they're all darling :)

the artist i'm talking about is Mirtle; i found her via Joseph Gordon-Levitt's community collaboration project, HitRecord. she's simply the best - her work, as you'll see, is a combination of cute, quirky, sensitive and beautiful.

and if you need more of an incentive to scroll to the eventual end of this post... there'll be a preview/surprise waiting for ya once you get down there ;)

all of these amazing illustrations were sourced from Mirtle's facebook page, which you can visit by clicking here.

(well, that's me...)

and if you made it this far... CONGRATULATIONS! :D

your first reward is this video - Dear Reader covering Yazoo's "Only You". um. it's brilliant... and includes a violin solo. also, if you listen really carefully, you can hear Cheri getting an email on her MacBook in the middle of the recording - HA! (yes, i've listened to the song so often that i picked that up. it's that brilliant.)

and your second reward is a bit of preview of something coming up in the next week, that i'm REALLY excited about!

what might that be for? :D leave your guesses in the comments - and tell me which of Mirtle's illustrations you love the most!

this (studying) girl's best friend

hi-ho everybody! (a Kermit reference... well done, Hannah)

i wrote an exam yesterday (Modern Fiction is DONE, baby!) so i'm now a third of the way through my six exams. but i write again tomorrow morning... and it's my second English paper... which is MODERNISM. *gulp* so anyway, my point is i don't have a ton of time to blog, because i should be studying. but i don't want to neglect this page of mine either! a compromise is in order, methinks.

so this is just a short study break, to share something with you that i think perfectly compliments my OM-NOM-NOM post from the other day. are you ready? well, here you go:

just a few words:

THIS. IS. MY. LIFE.

i'm seriously not an exercise-y person. it's just not my thing. i'm terrible at sports, running, or anything athletic. but this? SNACKCERCISING?! i am the QUEEN! (step down, Miss Piggy.)

yep. now, i should get back to snackcer... erm, i mean, excercising my brain for tomorrow's paper...

ugh.

wild caturday

last night, i was sitting around and puzzling over what i'd post for Caturday today. nothing was really coming to me, so i shrugged it off and decided to scroll through my Facebook feed and worry about the post later.

of course, good ol' Facebook Feed came to the rescue! so get ready for some serious awesomeness :D

my dad is a crazy awesome photographer and particularly loves photographing wildlife. he subscribes to a magazine called Africa Geographic, which is basically a magazine about African wildlife and outdoorsy stuff. now here comes the cool part. Africa Geographic announced a few months ago that they'd be running a cover shot competition for their January 2013 cover image, which would work in the following way:

readers of the magazine who thought they had some cover-worthy wildlife shots would submit these photos to the people at the magazine, who then uploaded them onto their magazine's Facebook page. then, these photos would be "voted" for by the Facebook community - judging by how many likes a photo got, the top few photos from each week were put up for consideration.

OF COURSE my dad took part, and he submitted some really amazing photos! now it's the final week and they've put up the final contenders - and my dad has not one but TWO photos in contention! not only that, but they're both of wild cats - OF COURSE. here they are:

how great are these shots, right? :D i'm biased, but even if i weren't i think either of these photos are more than worthy being on the cover of Africa Geographic in a couple months!

so here's what i need you to do: go here and here and hit "like" on both of these images. and... that's all you need to do! :D

THANK YOU GUYS!

the Om-nom-nominator

everyone's familiar with this guy, right? the omnomnomagon?

and then, of course, there are different versions of the omnomnomnivore:

and then there's... me. and i love to eat. here is an almost-100% accurate representation:

ok, so i'm not so physically... endowed. yet.

last night, after watching Back to the Future with Chris, Sindi, Alan (Sindi's boyfriend) and Jess in Alan's res, i walked into my room and plugged in my computer, took my shoes off, the usual. i glanced over at my door after a little while and did a double take.

there was something on my floor...

haaaaallelujah! haaaaallelujah! hallelujah, hallelujah, halleeeeelujah!!

so, my first reaction was one of sheer joy... as you can see by my attempt at Handel above. this feeling was followed swiftly by one of suspicion. who would randomly slide a chocolate bar under my door? who would do such a thing... and would they have good intentions?

i dunno if i like the look of ya, choccie...

...and then, very swiftly after that little moment of suspicion, i abandoned myself once more to joy.

...BAZINGA! of course i don't like the look of you - i LOVE the look of you! let's be best friends!

now, let's backtrack a little bit. remember how i love to eat? generally i don't have that much to munch on in my room, but since it's exam time, i bought a few things as study treats. just some NikNaks, some marshmallows, some jelly babies, some chocolate, a bag of Liquorice Allsorts and three bags of mini-biscuits. not that much, riiiight? (actually, that is A TON. but whatever.)

then, i got a box in the mail from my miracle of a mother, with MORE food in it. and LOTS of food. Eeny Meeny Miny Mo's, M&Ms, Mike & Ike's, jelly beans, marshmallow fish, Smarties Mini Eggs, Jambos, two chocolate bars, pretzels (which i've already consumed)...

which leads me to this point. THIS is the stash of food i currently have in my room. THIS...

and in case that doesn't look like a lot to you, i built it up into a tower, as well:

oh, and hey! i found a Pillsbury chocolate muffin lying around my room, too. may as well throw that into the equation...

and then i walked over to my desk and remembered i had Fizzers:

which, all in all, basically equals the Hannah-version of this:
oh dear.

you can just call me the OM-NOM-NOMINATOR!

(you know, like the Terminator. except i don't terminate - i om-nom-nom...inate.)
...aaand that will be all.

advertising: you're doing it right

hi, y'all!

first exam done and dusted, and it was surprisingly decent - which is a pretty good feeling :) i don't want to neglect this here blog (which i have done for the past couple days) but also can't commit a LOT of time to writing up a thoughtful post, for the sake of my sanity (i write again on Monday, and then Wednesday, so i need to get studying). SO! i thought i'd compromise and share a few brilliant advertisements i've seen in the past couple weeks.

this, for instance, is the latest safety briefing on board Air New Zealand flights, which is quite obviously inspired by "The Hobbit" and is titled "An Unexpected Briefing":

yes... really. it's fantastic. i can't handle.

then, this ad from Coke Zero just is epic:

no words! how great is this?

and then, finally, i do believe i've found my future employment agency...

oh John St., how i wish this were real! i would soooooo work there. not even joking.

and now i'm going to go read some postmodernist nonsense for Monday's exam - aaaugh!

caturday: star wars edition!

yow!

it's Caturday, and i thought this week i'd focus on somethin' that's been doing the rounds on every news network out there. that's right - George Lucas has sold Lucasfilm to Disney, and now Star Wars Episode XII is in motion.

but nope, no kitten... it's all true! so i did some Googling (Google is my new best friend) and found some pretty amazing stuff involving Star Wars and CATS. here goes:

fsheeeeew! Jedi cat on the loose!

om nom nom nom... stormies are delectable.

"no, Luke! he's your father! aaah..."

"chaaaaarge!"

no comment.

a gift of love

bringing down a cat-at

srsly, Darth? we are royally unimpressed with your anti-gravitational force skills. put us down immediately.

kittens love Darth (when he's not making them levitate)...

...and they love him! ;)

then, of course, as a finale, there's THIS....

:)

in all honesty, i'm actually pretty excited about Disney tackling Star Wars. nervous as all heck? yes... but pretty excited too, i won't lie. now just do a good job, Disney...

pretty please!

OHAAI.

i keep forgetting to mention, what with everything else going on in my life...

I GOT ACCEPTED INTO COMMUNICATION DESIIIIIIGN!

hear those birds sing :D now all i need to do is pass these six exams *cringe* and i'm on my way to a better life! ...well. you know. with Design stuff in it.

and now i should go study so i actually can have that better life and not some crappy second-rate reboot of second year. k.
